The holiday season isn’t over quite yet for Christina Hendricks. The six-time Emmy nominated Mad Men actress has joined the cast of BAD SANTA 2. The sequel reunites Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Cox, and Brett Kelly from the 2003 original. Kathy Bates is also signed on to play Sunny Soke, the foul-mouthed, tough-as-nails mother of Thornton’s boozy mall Santa, Willie Soke. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Hendricks will play an Ivy League-educated woman who runs a charity that is targeted by the Sokes.
Miramax and Broad Green are co-financing and co-producing the comedy, set for a November 23 release. Mean Girls helmer Mark Waters is directing, with principal photography beginning this month in Montreal. Johnny Rosenthal, Doug Ellin and Shauna Cross wrote the script. Miramax’s Zanne Devine and David Thwaites, Broad Green’s Gabriel and Daniel Hammond, Waters, Ellin and Jessica Tuchinsky are exec producing.
Hendricks has worked steadily since Mad Men wrapped, starring in SundanceTV’s Hap and Leonard series and opposite Michael Shannon in the indie pic Pottersville.
