While we reported last week that Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie was in still deliberating on whether or not he’d be back for the franchise’s next installment, today he made it official via Twitter. McQuarrie will return to write and direct MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 for Paramount. Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt, and produce alongside McQuarrie, J.J. Abrams and Skydance’s David Ellison and Dana Goldberg.
This continues McQuarrie’s long-standing relationship with Cruise. McQuarrie wrote the Cruise WWII drama Valkyrie, the sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow, and he wrote and directed Jack Reacher. McQuarrie won an Academy Award in 1995 for his original screenplay to The Usual Suspects.
