Colin Farrell Eyed For Sofia Coppola-Directed Remake Of “The Beguiled”



When the the Tracking Board first broke the news of Sofia Coppola’s remake of THE BEGUILED, the three female leads had been set with Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning, with the male lead, originated by Clint Eastwood, up for grabs — and it looks like is in talks to fill those shoes.

The Golden Globe-winning actor would play the role of John McBurney in the remake of the Don Siegel-directed 1971 original, which is based on the Southern Gothic novel by Thomas P. Cullian. Set during the Civil War, a young girl from an all-female Confederate boarding school comes across McBurney, an injured Union soldier. The school takes him in to help him recover, but he cons his way into their hearts and the women start to fight with him and each other for his attention.

Nicole Kidman will play the role of Martha Farnsworth, the Head Mistress of the school originally played by Academy Award-winning actress Geraldine Page. Fanning previously worked with Coppola on Somewhere, while Dunst remains a regular with the director, having starred in Virgin Suicides and Marie Antoinette.

Coppola producing alongside with her brother, Roman, under their American Zoetrope banner. Fred Roos of FR Productions will serve as an executive while Rebecca Arzoian will oversee at Focus. Youree Henley is set to produce.

Farrell continues to receive critical acclaim for his role in Yorgos Lanthimos’s dark comedy The Lobster. He also appears in the crime drama Solace opposite Anthony Hopkins. He can be seen later this year in the highly anticipated Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
