Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal, executive producers behind USA’s buzzy new series Colony, have signed on to rewrite New Line’s RAMPAGE, an adaptation of the popular arcade game. The pic, long in gestation, comes from the San Andreas team of helmer Brad Peyton, star Dwayne Johnson, and producer Beau Flynn and now adds the disaster pic’s scribe Cuse to the team.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. In the 1980s game, players were tasked with stopping a giant lizard, werewolf and gorilla from destroying cities across America. Per Johnson’s Instagram posts, production is expected to begin toward the end of summer pending scheduling for his other features Baywatch and Furious 8.
Cuse has spent most of his career in the TV arena. His extensive credits include Lost, Nash Bridges, and The Returned, and he’s currently running Colony, A&E’s Bates Motel and FX’s The Strain. In addition to Colony, Cuse and Condal worked together on the 2013 NBC pilot The Sixth Gun.
Flynn will produce under his FlynnPictureCo. Johnson pulls double-duty as star and producer along with his producing partner Dany Garcia through their Seven Bucks Productions. John Rickard will also produce for Wrigley Pictures, and Jeff Fierson will exec produce. Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) wrote a previous draft.
Cuse and Condal are repped by WME.
Cuse and Condal’s involvement was first reported by Variety.
