Comedy Central
Trump is about to be on television even more — well, a version of him.
Comedy Central is premiering a new weekly series, THE PRESIDENT SHOW, starring and created by comedian Anthony Atamanuik. The premise of the show is fairly simple: In an effort to bypass the media, Trump begins delivering weekly broadcasts from the Oval Office. Also appearing in the series will be Peter Grosz as Vice President Mike Pence.
This is not the first time Atamanuik will parody the current President. His portrayal of Trump has landed him on various outlets including CNN, The View, and @midnight.
However, the larger trend beyond Atamanuik’s performance is television’s upcoming obsession with depicting last year’s election and Trump. As the Tracking Board reported in February, there are already several series in the works about these topics, including an upcoming season of American Horror Story and Trump: It Happened Here. These series will only add to what many people refer to as the overwhelming 24-hour news cycle, for better or for worse.
Atamanuik and Grosz are executive producing the series alongside Adam Pally via his Clone Wolf banner, Jason Ross, Olivia Gerke, Josh Lieberman, and Greg Walter. Meanwhile, Andre Allen will direct and Sarah Babineau and Ari Pearce will oversee for the network.
Previously, Atamanuik has appeared in comedy series like 30 Rock, Broad City, and Difficult People. He’s represented by ICM and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Grosz had a recurring role in HBO’s Veep and was a writer for The Colbert Report. He’s repped by ICM and Brillstein Entertainment.
