Comic-Con 2016: “Once Upon A Time” Introduces New Characters For Next Season In First Clip

Once Upon a Time Evil Queen

Yvette Nicole Brown returned as moderator MVP of the panel this morning and things immediately took a turn for fun as she got the audience excited and her long-time familiarity with the cast and crew made for an easygoing and enjoyable panel. Questions started with a recap of Season 5, what characters have been through, and where they’re going now (the Hook/Charming bromance is headed for some quality time).

Lana Parrilla, who plays Regina, talked extensively about the Evil Queen coming back and how that’s going to have an effect both on Regina, but also the show at large. Spoiler alert: It’s going to really shake things up. Remember, the Evil Queen hasn’t stopped wanting Snow White’s (Ginnifer Goodwin) heart so that rivalry will make a return.

Brown also brought up the wedding dress shown in the background of a shot between Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), but sorry Captain Swan shippers, nothing was confirmed! Morrison even completely forgot the wedding dress was part of the shot. However, she did share a cute moment with O’Donoghue that the fans went wild over. And now that Hook is alive again, and he and Emma are confirmed to be True Love, the actors discussed the two will now be navigating their lives together. Plus, we’re going to be getting more Hook backstory!

The panel had no shortage of new footage as well.

First we got a bonus scene of Cruella de Vil (Victoria Smurfit) in the Underworld from a special feature on the Season 5 DVD, where she’s nursing her woes at a bar to the bartender (played by James Marsters, inciting cheers from the audience). By the end, she’s come to the conclusion that she’s the true hero of the world because by being evil, she creates the necessity for good. It’s a delightful scene, completely made by Smurfit’s wonderful performance.

The other new scene we received was the first of the upcoming season, and it’s a doozy.

Many years ago, a man rides through a desert on a horse being chased by a man on a flying carpet shooting dangerous spells at him. The horse-rider comes to his destination and bursts into a one-room stone house, begging the Savior, who we only see hunched over, to help. But it’s too late – the man who was on the magic carpet bursts in and kills the horse-rider. It’s none other than the evil Jafar (played now by Oded Fehr, the character was played by LOST’s Naveen Andrews on the short-lived spin-off series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland).

Jafar confronts the Savior, who comes to his feet, and it’s revealed to be the one and only Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz), looking a little worse for wear. The two clearly do not get along, with Jafar bringing up what Aladdin did to him (referencing the end of the Disney film) and then threateningly stating: “That’s why you never, ever hear these words about saviors: ‘They lived happily ever after.’’

The audience went wild.

After the panel it was confirmed that Galavant’s Karen David will be playing Jasmine in the upcoming season as well.

And don’t forget we also have Mr. Hyde promising to wreak havoc in Storybrooke – it’s going to be a busy season!
