“Chandelier” songstress Sia will lend her pop star vocals to the MY LITTLE PONY movie at Hasbro and Lionsgate, it was announced today at Comic-Con. Sia will voice the character Songbird Serenade and write two original songs for the animated film based on the popular line of toys created by Bonnie Zacherie.
In the story, a new dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6 – Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity – embark on an unforgettable journey beyond Equestria where they meet new friends and exciting challenges on a quest to use the magic of friendship and save their home.
Joe Ballarini, Meghan McCarthy and Rita Hsiao wrote the script for the movie, which will be directed by Jayson Thiessen. Stephen J. Davis and Brian Goldner are producing, while McCarthy will also serve as an executive producer. Josh Friedman will oversee for Hasbro.
In what will be one of her first acting roles, Sia joins fellow voice actors Emily Blunt, Uzo Aduba, Liev Schreiber, Kristin Chenoweth, and Max Martini. The movie is expected to hit theaters in 2017.
