Comic-Con 2016: The Complete Film Panel And Event Schedule (UPDATED)



The film panels at this year’s Comic-Con is starting to take shape and there are some titles that are guaranteed to cause a stir of excitement amongst the crowds of fanboy and fangirls. Marvel’s highly anticipated follow-up Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to take the stage with director James Gunn and star Chris Pratt while Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s R-rated CG animated feature Sausage Party will surely offend as much as it will make people laugh. Luc Besson’s upcoming sci-fi epic Valerian will also take a bow in Hall H with stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. DreamWorks Animation: TROLLS (10 a.m., Hall H) Featuring special Trolls presentation with filmmakers, voice talent, and a few colorful friends.

The 4th Annual Musical Anatomy of a Superhero (11 a.m., Indigo Ballroom/Hilton San Diego Bayfront) Behind-the-scenes look at the music of today’s biggest superhero film and TV projects with unreleased film clips and never before heard music. Participating composers: Henry Jackman, Tom “Junkie XL” Holkenborg, John Ottman, Blake Neely

SNOWDEN (11:45 a.m., Hall H) Open Road Films presentation featuring never-before-seen footage and a live conversation with director Oliver Stone and star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

MOANA: Art of Story (12:30 p.m., Room 6A) Directors Ron Clements and John Musker lead panel of artists for behind-the-scenes look at Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming film.

VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS (1 p.m., Hall H) Witness the first public exhibition of footage from acclaimed director/producer/writer Luc Besson’s first-ever Hall H presentation, and his latest foray into science fiction. Special operatives Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis made up of thousands of species from all corners of the universe. Alpha’s 17 million inhabitants have converged over time, uniting their talents, technology, and resources for the betterment of all. But not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; unseen forces are at work, placing their race in great danger. Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, The Professional), producer Virginie Besson-Silla (Lucy, Revolver), Dane DeHaan (Amazing Spider-Man 2, Chronicle), and Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad, Paper Towns) join moderator Josh Horowitz (MTV) and special surprise panelists for the first public sneak peek at Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, coming to theaters from EuropaCorp in Summer 2017.

SAUSAGE PARTY  Conversation (5:45 p.m., Horton Grand Theatre) Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg discuss Sony Pictures and Annapurna Pictures’ Sausage Party, the world’s first R-rated CG animated comedy. Pre-party and screening at Horton Plaza.


The Giant’s Dream: Documentary Screening & Chat with Brad Bird (10 a.m., Room 24ABC) From hundreds of hours of archival footage and myriad modern-day interviews comes a documentary that puts an in-depth spotlight on the beloved 1999 animated film The Iron Giant. Director Brad Bird (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, The Incredibles, Ratatouille) will lead a discussion following a final cut screening of this fascinating documentary that examines the intricate, behind-the-scenes details of the creative process in bringing this critically acclaimed film to the big screen. Author Ramin Zahed moderates.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Screenwriting Q&A (1 p.m., Horton Grand Theatre) Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely discuss adapting the beloved comic tale into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

REVENGEANCE will BIll Plympton & Jim Lujan (4 p.m., Room 23 ABC) Bill Plympton and writer Jim Lujan preview their new animated feature with finished clips. Discussion of the process from raising funds via Kickstarter to plans for distribution.

BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE World Premiere (9 a.m., Ballroom 20) The latest DC Universe Original Movie, an R-rated, feature-length animated film centering on the Joker, is based on one of the bestselling graphic novels of all time. Panelists: Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Ray Wis as Commissioner James Gordon, director Sam Liu and writer Brian Azzarello.


Warner Bros. Pictures (11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Hall H) A sneak peek at upcoming releases. Panels include:

  • WONDER WOMAN: Stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Connie Nielsen and director Patty Jenkins scheduled to appear.
  • SUICIDE SQUAD: Stars Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Scott Eastwood, Cara Delevingne, Adam Beach and Karen Fukuhara, along with writer-director David Ayer scheduled to appear.

ALIENS: 30th Anniversary (3:15pm – 4:15pm, Hall H) Writer/director James Cameron (Avatar) and producer Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead) join cast members Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), Bill Paxton (True Lies), Lance Henriksen (Millennium), Michael Biehn (The Terminator), and Paul Reiser (Red Oaks) for a look back at the iconic science fiction classic in honor of the film’s 30th anniversary.


Marvel Studios (5:30 p.m. – 6:45 p.m., Hall H) Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige and special guests provide an inside look at the ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
