With WONDER WOMAN finally in production casting notices have been slowly rolling in over the past few months, but this latest may surprise. After rumors that Robin Wright had signed on for the role of Hippolyta, it has now been learned that Connie Nielsen is set to play the famed Amazon.
Little is is known about the movie which will show the origin of the titular character during WWI. Gal Gadot is hard at work currently playing the lead heroine who we will get our first look at in Batman Vs. Superman later this year.
Nielsen joins previously cast Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, and Robin Wright, all in unnamed roles.
In the comics from DC, Hippolyta is queen of the Amazons on Paradise Island and based on the character from Greek Mythology. She is the mother of Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.
Now that we know Nielsen is cast as Hippolyta, rumors are continuing to swirl over the role award-winning actress Robin Wright has taken with many hoping for Circe. The character is based on the same sorceress who appeared in Homer’s Odyssey and is a major adversary of Wonder Woman.
Nielsen is best known for her work in Gladiator opposite Russell Crowe. She will next be seen in the thriller Stratton.
