When Dan Aykroyd isn’t peddling his (admittedly awesome looking) skull vodka or being weird about aliens and conspiracies or threatening us with “Ghostbusters III” he’s doing what he does best, which is channel that abject crazy into weird roles. Sometimes it’s awesome (Do I really have to list examples, just watch his early work), sometimes it’s the Britney Spears vehicle “Crossroads”. Hopefully joining the Melissa McCarthy (and hubby Ben Falcone) vehicle TAMMY will be one of the funny weird ones.
Story follows a woman (McCarthy) who is laid off from her job, discovers her husband is having an affair, and decides to go on a road trip with her foul-mouthed, diabetic grandmother (Susan Sarandon). Along the way she’ll meet Mark Duplass (not him playing himself, but his character) and he’ll hanging out with his father who will be played by Aykroyd. Hopefully it’s less love interest for Sarandon and more awkward unintentional double date!
Producing will be Tate Taylor, Kevin Messick, McCarthy and Falcone.
Aykroyd was last seen in “The Campaign” and will next cross your hdtv in HBO’s “Behind the Candelabra”.
He is repped by CAA.
