New Line has brought on Dan Fogelman to write, with Bradley Cooper looking to star and direct HONEYMOON WITH HARRY. The comedy/drama has long been in development, having originally been penned by Paul Haggis, based on an unpublished novel by Bart Baker. Cooper and Robert De Niro have been looking for a new project together, with this film serving as a comedy vehicle for the duo. Fogelman has been called in the re-write the script. Cooper has been looking to try his hand behind the camera, with this project marking his first directorial debut. The film follows a recovering self-destructive womanizer loses his fiancee in a car accident two days before their wedding and ends up going on his honeymoon with the fiancee’s father, who detests him, so they can scatter her ashes. Jonathan Demme, Jenny Lumet and Mike Million all turned in previous drafts, with Demme previously attached to direct.
Cooper most recently lent his voice to the character of Rocket Raccon in Marvel’s summer hit Guardians of the Galaxy and starred in Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper. He’ll next re-team with David O. Russell for Joy. Fogelman is a high-profile writer, commonly known for writing Crazy, Stupid, Love, Tangeled, and Last Vegas. Up next, he’ll write the comedy Nathan Decker and serve as an executive producer and writer on the new medieval musical series Galavant. He’ll also write and direct Danny Collins. De Niro recently starred in The Bag Man and Grudge Match. He has an incredibly busy slate of upcoming projects, including Dirty Grandpa, The Intern, and The Irishman.
