Yesterday it was announced The Raid director Gareth Evans was taking on the period thriller APOSTLE as his next project and now the film has found its lead in Beauty and the Beast’s Dan Stevens. He is currently in negotiations for the film, which Evans will both write and direct.
The film follows a man who is determined to rescue his sister. She’s been kidnapped by a religious cult and taken to a remote island. When the cult catches wind of what’s happening, they demand a ransom for her, undermining the brother’s attempt to rescue her.
Producing is expected to begin in March, with XYZ Films, Severn Screen, and Evans’ One More One Productions producing. XYZ is also set to handle international sales for the film this week at AFM.
Stevens is no stranger to thrillers after receiving critical acclaim for his turn in the Adam Wingard film The Guest. He was most recently in the Toronto Film Festival film Colossal and will soon be seen on the small screen in the upcoming X-Men series Legion and on the big screen in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast as the titular Beast.
He’s repped by Julian Belfrage & Associates in the U.K. and WME.
