Dan Stevens is set to star in THE CATASTROPHIST. The Channel 4 production is based on Ronan Bennett’s novel and centers on the love affair between a jaded writer and an idealistic journalist who are forced to take sides when a violent civil war breaks out in the Congo. Nick Broomfield will direct and co-write the script for the four-part series with Marc Hoeferlin.
Stevens is best known for his small screen roles, but that’s likely to change. Before playing his most famous role of Matthew Crawley on the hit period drama Downton Abbey, Stevens appeared in the BBC mini-series The Line of Beauty and Sense & Sensibility. After leaving Downton, Stevens has started to make quite the name for himself as a film star, appearing in The Fifth Estate, The Guest, and A Walk Among the Tombstones. His upcoming projects include playing Lancelot in the sequel Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and starring in the crime thriller Criminal Activities.
