Daniel Brühl is now attached to star as the titular zookeeper in THE ZOOKEEPER’S WIFE, which Angela Workman has adapted from the book by Diane Ackerman, which is based on the unpublished diary of Antonina Żabińska.
The film follows Antonina Żabińska, played by Jessica Chastain, as she and her husband (Brühl), the director of the Warsaw Zoo, use the zoo to help hundreds of Jewish refugees escape from the Warsaw Ghetto duringthe Nazi occupation of Poland in 1939. Niki Caro will direct.
Focus Features will handle US distribution, while parent company Universal distributes in the UK, France, Germany, Scandinavia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
Brühl is probably most memorable as the Nazi war hero, Fredrick Zoller, in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, has recently starred in Woman in Gold, and will be playing Baron Zemo in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War. He is repped by WME, Tavistock Wood and Players.

Daniel Bruhl is not playing the zookeeper. He’s playing the Nazi villain Lutz Heck, who falls in love with Antonina Zabinska (Jessica Chastain). Johan Heldenbergh is playing the zookeeper.
