Dave Bautista has officially signed on to star in the highly anticipated UNTITLED BLADE RUNNER SEQUEL. The former WWE superstar and professional mix martial artist joins Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling and Robin Wright.
There is no word yet on Bautista’s character, but it is reported that it will be an “important supporting role”. The film will be set in Los Angeles decades after the 1982 original directed by Ridley Scott. Ford will reprise his iconic role as Detective Rick Deckard. Co-writer of the original, Hampton Fancher is back on board to write the sequel alongside Michael Green. Denis Villeneuve is set to direct. The sequel is slated for a Jan. 12, 2018 release date.
Based on the Philip K. Dick’s 1968 sci-fi novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Blade Runner follows Ford’s Deckard as he tracks down genetically engineered replicants that have illegally escaped to Earth in order to extend their life span.
Bautista is best known for his role as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, a role he will reprise in the 2017 sequel. He also starred in the most recent installment of the James Bond franchise, Spectre and can be seen in the upcoming films Kickboxer: Vengeance as well as the action pic Marauders opposite Bruce Willis.
He is repped by The Gersh Agency.
