David Heyman and James Schamus are set to help bring ZEALOT: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JESUS OF NAZARETH to the big screen. Heyman will produce the period drama, while Schamus is writing the adaptation for Lionsgate. Written by Dr. Reza Aslan, the book centers on the life of Jesus as a man. It analyzes the various religious perspectives and the creation of Christianity, all while challenging many of the assumptions made about him.
Heyman is very well known as the producer behind the “Harry Potter” franchise, and has also produced sci-fi thrillers “I Am Legend” and “Gravity.” He’s currently attached to produce the family comedy “Paddington” and a number of other adaptations, including “The Night Circus” and “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.”
Former Focus Features exec Schamus co-produced Ang Lee’s “Sense and Sensibility” and has written the scripts for “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and 2003’s “Hulk.” Next up, Schamus is producing the period adaptation of “Longbourn” and Ang Lee’s untitled boxing drama, which centers on the great boxing rivalries of the 1960s and 70s.
Schamus is repped by CAA.
