The story, pitched as “Project X” meets “8 Mile”, will center around three teenagers on a quest to get in to Diplo’s Electronic Music Festival. Katzenberg will helm from a script penned by Adam Weinstock and Andy Jones. Trevor Engelson is producing for Underground. Noah Rothman will executive produce alongside Kevin Kusatsu and Diplo himself.
Katzenberg directed 6 episodes of MTV’s “Awkward.” and wrote and executive produced 24 episodes of “The Hard Times of RJ Berger.” He most recently directed a few episodes of “Ben and Kate” and helmed the episode “Keaton” of Fox’s “New Girl.” His slate of upcoming projects is fairly large, consisting of mostly producing work. Chris Columbus’ “Gremlins”, Jonathan W. Stokes’ “Murders & Acquisitions”, Seth Grahame-Smith’s “Unholy Night” and Maggie Stiefvater’s “The Scorpio Races” are just a few of the films he will be producing. Katzenberg is also the latest name to re-write the script for “Beetlejuice 2.”
