After Chad Stahelski and David Leitch’s successful directing of John Wick, only one of them will be working on the sequel. Leitch has left to direct Charlize Theron’s spy thriller, THE COLDEST CITY.
The two had signed on for The Coldest City and were expected to co-direct John Wick 2 this fall. However, due to her busy schedule, Theron was only able to shoot her film in the fall as well, presenting a major conflict for the two directors. In a rather pragmatic decision, the two decided to split up, with Stahelski to shoot the John Wick sequel and Leitch to direct The Coldest City.
How they fare as directors individually remains to be seen, but each director has more than enough experience in the film industry to stand on his own. Both are prolific stuntmen who have also served as assistant directors, actors, and producers, and chances are their experiences will influence their films for the better.
David Leitch and Chad Stahelski are both repped by WME and Kelly McCormick.
