I woke up this morning just in time to witness a groundhog ride past my window on a unicorn. He was pointing to the sky. Specifically a distant galaxy far, far away. That’s when I knew there would be another STAR WARS EPISODE VII rumor today.
Like all the previous rumors this one is so light I hesitate to even designate it as a rumor. Perhaps a new term is needed. Subrumor? Alternateuniverserumor? Sparklywishywishyrumor? Whichever the term there’s been word that David Oyelowo and Michael B. Jordan have met for unknown roles. It’s not clear if it’s the same role or two different ones, but Jordan reportedly met “with JJ Abrams personally.” This is all exciting news if you’re someone who likes a little diversity in his or her sci-fi. (I am.) Latino Review seems to think they couldn’t be meeting to play a son role of a pre-existing character, which isn’t true if you consider Lando Calrissian. Hopefully it’s something better than that, especially when Jordan is already playing the son of an iconic character in “Creed.”
Michael Arndt (“Toy Story 3”) is most likely writing the script with George Lucas watching over him clad in a dark robe and bathed in shadow, cackling madly. JJ Abrams (“Star Trek”) is gearing up to direct by ensuring his gorgeous mane holds strong against all the haters. Producing will be Simon Kinberg, Emperor George Lucas and (hell yeah “The Big Chill”) Lawrence Kasdan.
Oyelowo was last in “Jack Reacher” and “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” and will next appear in “Nina” and Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar.” Jordan was last in “Fruitvale Station” and will next be seen in “That Awkward Moment.”
Oyelowo & Jordan are repped by WME.
