Tennant will play the series’ central character Walt who goes on a camping trip with his dysfunctional family to celebrate his 45th birthday.
Based on the British series created by Julia Davis and produced by Baby Cow Productions, the 8-episode series is written and exec. produced by A Casual Romance’s Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner with Davis exec. producing along with Baby Cow’s Christine Langan, Ilene S. Landress and Tom Lassally of 3 Arts Entertainment.
The logline for the series is:
Walt’s 45th birthday was supposed to be a delightful weekend back to nature, at least according to his obsessively organized and aggressively controlling wife Kathryn. But when the camping trip gathers Kathryn’s meek sister, holier than thou ex-best friend and a free-spirited Tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman on woman crime that won’t soon be forgotten. Plus, bears.
Jennifer Garner was previously announced to play series regular Kathryn, “a controlling LA mom who is far less cheerful than her Lululemons imply.”
David Tennant is probably best known for playing the role of Doctor Who on a couple seasons of the revived BBC series, plus he played Killgrave the Purple Man in the first series of Marvel’s Jessica Jones (and appeared in one episode of the new season). Tennant also signed on to be in Amazon Studios’ adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens and has wrapped on the Daisy Aitkens rom-com You, Me and Him, co-starring Lucy Punch and Faye Marsay Last year, Tennant was seen opposite Elizabeth Moss in Robert Mullan’s Mad to be Normal. With a 20-year acting career, Tennant also does regular voice and stage work.
