David Yates Officially Boards “Fantastic Beasts”

Amidst the outpouring of movie info coming from Warner Bros. today, it’s been announced that has officially signed on to direct . The specifics of the film are being kept quiet, but as anyone who read the book knows, the story of Newt Scamander is set 70 years before the events of Harry Potter and will feature magical creatures and characters from the Potter mythology. As exciting as this project is on its own merits, it goes to a whole other fangirl level when you realize that J.K. Rowling herself will be penning the script.

For Potterheads, Yates is well known as the helmer of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 & 2. His upcoming include Warner Bros. upcoming adaptation of Tarzan and war drama St. Nazaire, which is being produced by another Potter alum, David Heyman.
