Writer/director Dee Rees and successful showrunner and producer Shonda Rhimes are teaming up to develop a historical drama series for FX titled WARMTH OF OTHER SUNS. The series will chronicle the Great Migration of African Americans from the south to other regions of the U.S. between 1915 and 1970. The series will be based on the book by Isabel Wilkerson. Rees will write and executive produce the series, with Rhimes producing under her Shondaland moniker. FX Productions will team with ABC Signiature for the project.
Rees has written the upcoming HBO Bessie Smith biopic Bessie, which is set for release later this month. She is known for directing the 2011 hit Sundance film Pariah.
