Demián Bichir is lining up his first broadcast TV role and will star in ABC’s drama pilot GRAND HOTEL.
Grand Hotel comes from writer and executive producer Brian Tanen, with Eva Longoria also on board as an EP. The show, based on a Spanish telenovela, is described as a soapy drama set against the backdrop of a Miami Beach hotel, centering around the family who owns the business, the staff who run it, and the explosive secrets they hide under the perfect exterior.
Bichir will play Gonzalo Cardenas, the handsome and charismatic owner of the Grand Riviera Hotel. Gonzalo’s super-power is his charm. He is one of those people who can talk to anyone and make them feel like fast friends. Gonzalo has built himself up from nothing, and will do anything to keep what he has.
He joins the previously-cast Roselyn Sanchez, who will play Gonzalo’s wife, Gigi.
Ben Spector, Oliver Bachert and Christian Gockel also executive produce.
Bichir was previously the star of FX’s The Bridge and was a series regular on Showtime’s Weeds though he has never done a broadcast network show. His film credits include 2011’s A Better Life, for which he was nominated for an Oscar, Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight and the upcoming Chaos Walking. He is represented by CAA.
