Diane Keaton is set to star in HBO’s THE YOUNG POPE. She joins Jude Law in the eight-episode mini-series, which centers on the beginning of the Pontificate of Pius XXII. She will play an American nun living in Vatican City.
The series is created by Paolo Sorrentino, who won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for his 2013 Italian drama Le Grande Bellezza, or The Great Beauty. He is set to direct all eight episodes. Law stars as Lenny Belardo, a conservative American pontiff recruited by a Vatican fed up with liberals.
This will be the first time Keaton will appear on television as a series regular. She was recently seen in romantic comedy 5 Flights Up opposite Morgan Freeman and and will next be seen in Christmas comedy Love The Coopers, alongside Alan Arkin, John Goodman, Amanda Seyfriend and Olivia Wilde.
Keaton is repped by WME.
