Dimension Films has officially set a release date for their SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN reboot. The Mark Wahlberg-led actioner will hit screens December 22nd, 2017. Wild Tales director Damián Szifron wrote the screenplay, though he’ll also be stepping in to direct. Production eyes a September 2016 start, with Wahlberg, Bob Weinstein, and Stephen Levinson producing.
Based on the classic 1970’s TV series The Six Million Dollar Man, the story follows military officer Steve Austin, who becomes a part of a top secret government experiment after an accident leaves him mortally wounded. The procedure employs advanced technology to make Austin the world’s first bionic man, gifting him with extraordinary abilities.
“I’m thrilled to assemble The Six Billion Dollar Man for the big screen with the likes of Bob Weinstein and Damián Szifron,” said Wahlberg regarding the news. “We look forward to creating a Steve Austin for the 21st century.”
Szifron also chimed in, stating: “Writing the screenplay was such a fantastic ride and embarking on this journey with Mark, Bob and Stephen to take this story to a whole new level is simply spectacular. Growing up, these kind of films left an indelible mark on me and now it feels so good to be making one.”
