After creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds, director Tim Miller has decided to part ways with DEADPOOL 2. A deal had not yet been signed but Miller was in he works on a script and appeared to be staying on as director for the sequel.
The first film followed the origin story of the titular character Deadpool. Reynolds, who made a couple other attempts at finding comic book stardom with the Green Lantern and as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (where his mouth was sewn shut), finally found success as the actioner was a surprise box office success. Miller, who directed and executive produced several shorts and is a VFX specialist, made his directorial debut with Deadpool, with a script from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Miller, Reese, Wernick, and Reynolds were all integral in creating the fresh tone that led to Fox’s successful franchise.
The end credits included tidbits on what the creators had planned for the sequel and more recently, news has been circulating about casting for new roles in the film including Domino and Cable.
Miller won’t have too much free time between projects. After the seemingly amicable split with Reynolds over Deadpool, Fox has already scooped him up for Influx, based on the novel from Daniel Suarez.
