Disney has announced a fourth installment to the juggernaut High School Musical franchise. No date has been given for HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 4 but a nationwide casting search has begun for the new East High Wildcats and their cross-town school rivals, the West High Knights.
Jeffrey Hornaday, who previously helmed Disney Channel’s Teen Beach Movie, will direct and choreograph the film from a script by Dan Berendsen and Peter Barsocchini. Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush will executive produce. Jason La Padura, Natalie Hart, and Kendra Patterson will lead the casting call for the young stars.
The tween flick will follow soccer player Erin as she falls for a bad-boy soccer player, Derek, and finds herself caught between Derek and her hot soccer captain Campbell. New characters include:
Erin, a soccer player who strives for excellence and is the only girl on the boys’ team. She starts falling for the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, but isn’t sure whether to follow her heart.
Derek, the bad boy who falls for Erin. He is tough on the surface but a soft-hearted family guy at his core. He’s an excellent soccer player and incredible dancer who teaches dance classes to little girls at his family’s studio.
Campbell, the super hot soccer captain and theater star who also happens to be Sharpay and Ryan Evans’ cousin. He decides that he wants to date Erin, and isn’t too happy when she wants to be with Derek instead.
Nathalie, East High’s biggest fan, a loyal, outgoing cheerleader and big-hearted BFF to Erin.
Tamara, East High’s former queen bee, a cheer squad member attempting to climb back up the social ladder and reclaim all the attention for herself.
The original film premiered on the Disney Channel in 2006 and drew the highest rating for any telecast ever at the time with 7.7 million total viewers. It’s sequel drew 18.6 million viewers a year later. The last film starring Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens premiered in theaters in 2008 and grossed over $250 million worldwide.
