Author/screenwriter/director Stephen Chbosky has signed on to pen Disney’s live action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote a previous draft of the project, which Bill Condon is set to direct. The remake will feature music from the original film, as well as from the Broadway musical that came after. This project is not to be confused with the Warner Bros. project “Beauty,” which will star Emma Watson.
Chbosky doesn’t have a long history if films to hit the big screen, but there are some heavy-hitters within the group. He got his start penning the script for Chris Columbus’s “Rent” before adapting his own novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” which he also directed. Chbosky co-created CBS’ “Jericho,” which aired for two seasons. Next up, Chbosky takes the helm of comedy “While We’re Young,” which re-unites him with “Perks” star Emma Watson.
Chbosky is repped by WME.
