Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist is set to get a modern makeover from Disney with the help of and , the director of the Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton.

Oliver Twist tells the story of an orphan boy who moves from a life as an exploited child laborer to being under the wings of Fagin, a leader of a gang of London pickpockets. Hardship, murders, and secrets waiting-to-be-revealed follow the boy. The new iteration will be a modern musical that fuses many genres including hip hop. Cube is attached to play Fagin and is writing a treatment with Jeff Kwatinetz.

Marc Platt, who produced the Broadway smash Wicked, is set to produce alongside Kwatinetz. Cube will also serve as a producer under his CubeVision shingle.

This is not the first time Disney has tackled a modern version of the classic Dickens story. In 1988, the Mouse House adapted it into an animated feature, Oliver and Company.

In addition to the cultural phenomenon known as Hamilton, Kail worked with Lin-Manuel Miranda on In the Heights. He also directed Fox Television’s Grease Live! starring Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens.

Cube recently appeared in Ride Along 2 and Barbershop: The Next Cut. He also served as producer of the Academy Award-nominated Straigh Outta Compton. He can be seen next in the comedy Fist Fight opposite Charlie Day.
