WEEKEND BOX OFFICE (03.24.14) – “Divergent” Is The Weekend’s Clear Winner With Nothing Else Even Close

“Divergent” came in first place, pulling in more than three times the money as the number two spot, with $56 million. “Muppets Most Wanted” had a very slow start, opening at the number two position with only $16.5 million in its first weekend, taking in just over half of what the first film did when it bowed in 2011. “Mr. Peabody” dropped two spots to number three as the new comers arrived, but still managed to add another $11.7 million to its total in week three. Also in week three, and also dropping two spots was the latest “300” movie which accumed another $8.6 million. And finally in fifth was the new comer “God’s Not Dead,” which took in very respectable $8.5 million.
