Marvel Studios has a track record for picking the most unexpected directors and writers for their projects and their latest addition to the team isn’t any different. The studio has recently wrangled in Community co-creator Dan Harmon to do some last-minute script work for the forthcoming DOCTOR STRANGE movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
Known for his work in comedy, Marvel enlisting Harmon to their team of writers may not be as surprising as some may think. Anthony and Joe Russo, who have worked in the alt-comedy sitcom world including Community, are essentially the prized writing/directing team for the studio, having helmed Captain America: The Winter Solider and Captain America: Civil War which are arguably the two best movies in the MCU. They also have been tasked with writing and directing the upcoming Infinity War pic as well as the untitled Avengers follow-up.
Harmon has worked primarily in television but has also written for the big screen for the movies Kung Fu Panda and Monster House. He signed on to do work on pages for additional photography after Doctor Strange wrapped principal production. He will join the movie’s co-writer/director Scott Derrickson and fellow scribe C. Robert Cargill for the last-minute scenes.
In addition to Community, Harmon is the creator and executive producer of the popular animated series Rick and Morty as well as his talk show Harmontown.
He is repped by CAA.
