Heading to Cannes next week? Then you’ll most certainly want to keep your eyes peeled for DOWN UNDER COVER, a package sure to be burning up the festival.
In the vein of Rush Hour and The Heat, the story follows a detective going undercover to solve a series of baffling casino heists in which the prime suspects are a troupe of Australian male erotic dancers. The project has Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Endgame & Thor: Ragnarok) and Tiffany Haddish (Girl’s Trip) attached to star. The package is being introduced by CAA (handling domestic) and FilmNation (handling international). This duo has had much success dealing with star-driven content at previous festivals including 3000 Years of Longing at AFM with George Miller attached to direct and Rian Johnson’s Knives Out at TIFF.
The script comes from Peter Hoare. Hoare secured a spot on the Young & Hungry list back in 2012. Since then, his work has been featured on the 2012 Hit List with his project Everybody Wants Head, which he co-wrote with Chris Lilli, the 2014 Hit List with Kid Leviathan co-written with Fred Seton, and the 2016 Hit List with project We Are Unsatisfied. Other works of his include Standing Up, Falling Down starring Billy Crystal and Ben Schwartz which just wrapped and an English remake of the French film, Babysitting, that sold to eOne.
Haddish is producing alongside Hemsworth and his team John Finemore, James Hoppe, & Ben Grayson at Thematic Entertainment. Hoare is repped by Barry Kotler, Jonas Brooks, and Rob Coleman of CAA and Kailey Marsh of Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
