Disney has announced newcomer Auli’i Cravalho will make her feature film debut as the voice of the titular character in their highly anticipated MOANA. She joins Dwayne Johnson, who will anchor the animated picture as voice of the demi-God Maui.
Moana tells the story of a young girl on a quest to rescue her lost family and teams up with a broken demi-god where she ends up healing a 1000-year-old rift that has fractured the Pacific.
The film is being directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, who previously directed The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and many other classics for Disney. Osnat Shurer is producing.
The script for Moana was penned by Taika Waititi who is also in negotiations to direct the third Thor movie for Marvel.
Moana is set for theatrical release on November 23, 2016.
