Dwayne Johnson has been tapped to star in and produce New Line Cinema’s arcade game adaptation, RAMPAGE. Plot details are kept under lock and key, but the 1980’s video game of the same name features a giant lizard, wolf, and gorilla destroying landmark cities across North America. Sources close to the project reveal that Johnson will star as a man who fights off these gargantuan menaces.
Johnson and partner Dany Garcia will produce through their 7 Bucks Entertainment banner. Beau Flynn will also produce via his Flynn Picture Co. shingle, along with Rickard Pictures’ John Rickard, who was on board at the onset. Non-Stop scribe Ryan Engle scripted the action/sci-fi pic in 2011.
Johnson previously worked with Flynn and New Line on the disaster epic San Andreas, which has raked in over $415 million globally, and the fantasy sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. The action star also teamed with Flynn for Brett Ratner’s Hercules.
Johnson is set to star following production on Universal’s Fast & Furious 8, which is anticipated to shoot sometime in 2016. Johnson is currently shooting the New Line comedy Central Intelligence, which co-stars Kevin Hart, and his HBO series Ballers just premiered this past Sunday.
The news was first reported by Deadline.
