The Rock is cooking up yet another project, this time an adaptation of the soon-to-be-published graphic novel SON OF SHAOLIN from author Jay Longino. Sony has acquired the feature pitch from Longino with Dwayne Johnson attached to produce with Dany Garcia through their Seven Bucks Productions.
Longino will write the script, which is a contemporary Kung-Fu story that intertwines Shaolin mythology with many of the current issues faced by teens growing up in a gentrifying neighborhood like Harlem.
Matt Milam, who brought the project into the studio, will oversee.
The possibility that Johnson would also star in the project, while not out of the question, is highly unlikely given his current commitments on screen. The Central Intelligence star is currently filming Baywatch, and is in preproduction with Sony’s Jumanji remake, after which he he’s expected to star in The Sub-Mariner, Skyscraper, San Andreas 2, The Janson Directive, Seal Team 666, Rampage, and the Big Trouble in Little China remake, just to name a few.
Longino is the scribe behind the Renny Harlin film Skiptrace starring Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville.
