Universal is launching a new movie universe based around the works of Robert Ludlum and is teaming up with Dwayne Johnson to bring it to fruition. Ludlum is best known for authoring the Jason Bourne novels that became a blockbuster action franchise starring Matt Damon.
Johnson will star in Ludlum’s THE JANSON DIRECTIVE, and will serve as executive producer with Dany Garcia through their Seven Bucks Productions. Mythology’s Tracey Nyberg also executive produces while Hiram Garcia, Captivate’s Ben Smitch and Jeffrey Weiner, James Vanderbilt, Brad Fischer, William Sherak, and Akiva Goldsman produce.
The story follows a former clandestine operative, now the best private security consultant in the world, who is framed for a horrendous crime and must join forces with the protégée sent to kill him in order to survive.
Vanderbilt is adapting the book for the screen and will also co-author two other stories based on the Ludlum series that will be adapted for the film universe. He co-wrote the story with Goldsman.
Johnson stars in Central Intelligence with Kevin Hart, out this summer. He can also be seen in the upcoming season two of Ballers and voiced the character Maui in Disney’s Moana. Next years he stars in the film remake of Baywatch and the eighth installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise.
Johnson is repped by WME.
