Netflix’s upcoming series based on the YA novel 13 REASONS WHY has cast Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford in the lead roles. The book was a New York Times bestseller from Jay Asher.
The project is adapted into 13 episode series that follow a boy named Clay through an emotional night when he receives a shoe box of cassette tapes from his late classmate and crush Hannah after she recently committed suicide. On the tapes, which are mailed with instructions to pass along from one student to another, Hannah explains to 12 peers how they each played a role in her death, by giving 13 reasons explaining why she took her life.
Minnette will star as Clay while Langford plays Hannah. They are joined by Brandon Flynn, Christian Navarro, Alisha Boe, Justin Prentice, Devin Druid, Miles Heizer, and Ross Butler.
Brian Yorkey wrote the show which Tom McCarthy directs. The project hails from Anonymous Content and Paramount TV with Selena Gomez, Yorkey, Diana Son, Joy Gorman, Michael Sugar, Steve Golin, Mandy Teefey, and Kristel Laibel executive producing.
Newcomer Langford is from Perth, Australian and was accepted into WAAPA, Australia’s top drama school. She did not enroll however, after landing a screen test for TNT’s pilot Will.
Minnette has appeared on Scandal, Lost, Awake, and Saving Grace, as well as starring in last year’s Goosebumps.
Langford is repped by Silver Lining Entertainment and Independent Management in Australia.
Minnette is repped by WME and Monster Talent Management.
