Eddie Redmayne has been announced as the current frontrunner for the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM. The film is set to be directed by David Yates, who helmed multiple entries in the Harry Potter series. Rowling herself is writing the screenplay. The story follows the character Newt Scalamander, and is based on the textbook used by students in the Harry Potter series. Dr. Who star Matt Smith has recently been mentioned as a possible frontrunner as well.
Redmayne recently won an Oscar for his performance as scientist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. He is set to star as Lili Elbe in the biographical drama The Danish Girl.
