Eli Roth is set to direct a remake of the classic action vigilante pic DEATH WISH with Bruce Willis stepping into the role originated by Charles Bronson. Big Bad Wolves helmers Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado were originally attached to direct.
The 1974 original with Bronson was directed by Michael Winner and based on a novel by Brian Garfield. It followed a New York architect who, after seeing his wife get murdered, becomes a vigilante that kills criminals in the mean streets at night. The movie started a cult franchise with the last movie, Death Wish V: The Face of Death released in 1994.
Roth’s most recent directing credits include the thriller Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves and the cannibal horror flick, The Green Inferno. He also co-wrote and will produce the upcoming horror Lake Mead directed by Jessica Chandler. He is repped by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Willis was recently seen in the action pic Precious Cargo and can be seen in the forthcoming Marauders with Christopher Meloni and Dave Bautista. He can also be seen soon-to-be released comedy Going Under. He is repped by CAA.
