Elizabeth Banks has officially left the director’s chair for PITCH PERFECT 3. The news comes days after Universal announced that it was pushing back the musical comedy’s release date from July 31, 2017 to December 22, 2017.
Banks, who has served has produced and starred in the franchise and directed the second movie, will stay on as producer for the third installment alongside Paul Brooks and Scott Niemeyer from Gold Circle Films. The first Pitch Perfect earned over $65 million domestically at the box office, while the sequel raked in over $184 million.
Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson are attached to reprise their roles in Pitch Perfect 3, which will be written by Kay Cannon.
Last year, Banks starred in Magic Mike XXL and ended her run as Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, the last movie in the franchise. She is currently filming the big screen adaptation of Power Rangers where she will play the villainous Rita Repulsa.
