Elle Fanning stars in a new spin on the author of Frankenstein in the trailer for MARY SHELLEY, which chronicles Shelley’s life prior to the publication of her classic novel.
After marrying famous poet Percy Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin writes her first novel in reaction to Lord Byron’s insistence that women aren’t intelligent enough to create ideas of their own. But when she publishes Frankenstein under her married name, readers begin to believe that her husband actually wrote the book, and she must fight to prove that the story is her own.
Fanning, whose credits include The Beguiled and Neon Demon, stars alongside Douglas Booth (Noah) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones). The film is helmed by Haifaa Al-Mansour, who is best known for her 2012 film Wadjida, the first-ever film from a female Saudi Arabian director.
