Ellen Page has signed on to star in Netflix’s UMBRELLA ACADEMY, based on the Dark Horse comic book of the same name.
The story, based on the comic book by Gerard Way, follows a dysfunctional family of superheroes known as the Umbrella Academy – Luther, Diego, Allison, Vanya, Klaus and Number Five – as they work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities.
Page will play Vanya, the black sheep of the family who is the only on with no supernatural abilities.
Jeremy Slater wrote the pilot script, while Steve Blackman will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Bluegrass Television as well as Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse Entertainment. Way will be a co-EP on the series.
The 10-episode series will launch in 2018 on Netflix.
This would mark Page’s second superhero role after originating the role of Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat, in X-Men: The Last Stand and reprising it in X-Men: Days of Future Past. She is repped by WME and VIE Entertainment.
