Emma Stone and Steve Carell have signed on to portray Billy Jean King and Bobby Riggs in the biopic following the athletes’ epic 1973 match, dubbed the BATTLE OF THE SEXES. The pair have previously starred together in Crazy, Stupid Love. The film is set at 20th Century Fox, with Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle attached. It is the third project following the athletes that is currently in production. Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giammati will play the characters in an upcoming HBO biopic, and Will Ferrell is set to play Riggs in the upcoming film Match Maker.
Known for her roles in The Help and Easy A, Stone has recently signed on for the upcoming Damien Chazelle musical La La Land, alongside of Ryan Gosling.
Carell is known for his roles in The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Anchorman. He was recently seen in the Oscar nominated biopic Foxcatcher, alongside of Channing Tatum.
