Fresh off of attaching herself to Love May Fail, Emma Stone has now closed a deal to star in Fox Searchlight’s drama BATTLE OF THE SEXES.
Stone was initially attached, but originally had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts. Brie Larson was approached to fill the role, but now Stone has come back into the fold. Stone will star as tennis pro Billie Jean King in the sports drama, opposite Steve Carell as Bobby Riggs.
Little Miss Sunshine filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris direct from a script penned by Simon Beaufoy.
Danny Boyle produces via his Decibel Films shingle, along with Christian Colson and his Cloud Eight banner.
The pic follows the 1973 match between King and Riggs when, at 29, the No. 2 ranked King beat 55-year-old Wimbledon champion Riggs.
Stone recently wrapped on Whiplash director Damien Chazelle’s musical La La Land, which reunited her with her Crazy Stupid Love co-star Ryan Gosling. She’ll next shoot The Lobster helmer Yorgos Lanthimos’s next drama, The Favourite.
