The Shield alum has joined Fox’s GOTHAM as a series regular. Chiklis will play Captain Nathaniel Barnes, an original character, in the DC Comics adaptation, which will begin its second season in the fall.

Chiklis’s character has been described as a cop who “lands on the Gotham City Police Department like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of the city’s police force.” He will be an ally and a mentor to Ben McKenzie’s Jim Gordon.

Chiklis is no stranger to portraying law enforcement, memorably playing LAPD Detective Vic Mackey on the FX police drama The Shield, a role for which he won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Series, and Commissioner Tony Scali on ABC’s The Commish. He was most recently seen in American Story: Freak Show.
