While fans of Michael Bay’s 1995 action-comedy Bad Boys and its sequel might be dubious of NBC’s plans to do an UNTITLED BAD BOYS SPINOFF, so far the casting has made the project more interesting. First of all, the show is being built around Gabrielle Union’s Bad Boys II character DEA Agent Syd Burnett, but now, Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson has been cast as her father Joseph Burnett for the pilot.
Produced by original Bad Boys producer Jerry Bruckheimer with Doug Belgrad, Primary Wave Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television, the show will follow Union’s Burnett as she moves from Miami to L.A. to start a new job as an LAPD detective. She’ll be paired with Nancy McKenna, a working mom, as the two of them will solve crimes together in what’s expected to be an action-packed procedural drama.
The pilot is written by The Blacklist writers-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier.
Represented by APA and Zero Gravity Management, Hudson currently stars on the Netflix comedy series Grace & Frankie as Lily Tomlin’s love interest, but most people will remember him for his role as Winston in the popular 1984 comedy Ghostbusters. Hudson also appeared briefly in the 2016 reboot, which Belgrad oversaw as an exec. at Sony Pictures.
