Evan Daugherty has been tapped to write the reboot of TOMB RAIDER, said to be a prequel to the video game property by the same name. The 2001 and 2003 installments starred Angeline Jolie as Lara Croft, a kick-ass British archaeologist who ventures into ancient, hazardous tombs and ruins around the world in search of rare artifacts.
Denis O’Sullivan will oversee for GK Films, Cassidy Lange for MGM and Jon Berg for Warner Bros.
The reboot is said to be on a fast track as the project has been in the works for quite some time now. In 2009, Warner Bros. had plans to reboot the franchise with some help from Lin Pictures with Megan Fox attached to star. However, when in 2011 the project died, MGM began it’s efforts to bring their prequel version to life. In 2013, the studio brought on Marti Noxon to rewrite the reboot and take over for Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, all of whom are now being replaced by the Daugherty.
Now, in an almost serendipitous manner, WB has signed on to co-finance and co-produce the film in conjunction with MGM.
Daugherty’s recent work includes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divergent, Snow White And The Huntsman and G.I. Joe 3. He is currently writing Image’s comic, 5 Ghosts, for UCP and Benderspink.
