Primarily known for his work in TV, director Jeff Tomsic will shift gears and focus his talent on the big screen as he’s been tapped to helm the upcoming Lionsgate feature YOU’LL BE THE DEATH OF ME. The script is from Two Night Stand scribe Mark Hammer, who sold the spec to Lionsgate back in 2013.
One part comedy and one part horror, You’ll Be the Death of Me follows Trevor, a nice and naive guy from Utah who has just moved to New York and has yet to be corrupted by the city. He falls for a girl but soon finds himself being stalked by a knife-wielding masked psychopath who will stop at nothing to keep women single.
Tomsic boards the project following the exit of Cheap Thrills director E.L. Katz. James Myers and Gillian Bohrer will oversee production at Lionsgate while David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce for Mandeville Films. Hoberman and Lieberman recently produced The Divergent Series: Allegiant and are currently working on Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson.
Based on the premise, the darkly comedic angle of You’ll Be the Death of Me should be a good fit for Tomsic. His comedy credits include projects with darker comedians, including The Jeselnik Offensive and Comedy Underground with David Attell. Recently, Tomsic has worked on narrative-driven series like the hit Comedy Central show Broad City and Idiotsitter starring Jillian Bell, which he also executive produces. His most recent directing work can be see on the TBS series The Detour starring former Daily Show correspondent, Jason Jones.
Tomsic is also attached to direct Baby Adventure, a comedy feature from The Heat scribe Katie Dippold.
