Strong will play Summer, a loud, sexually-oversharing wild card who, as the only single friend Rachel (Chastain) has left, becomes her wing-woman by default.
It had been previously reported that the Weinstein Co. was waiting to secure a director until after Chastain’s co-star had been set, back when Amy Schumer was still being eyed for the role. But with Strong now officially on board, producers are ready to move forward, with eyes for a female director to drive this priority project home.
It’s proving to be a great year for Strong, who, in addition to her duties on Saturday Night Live’s 40th season, hosted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April–shortly before landing key supporting roles in Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters reboot and the Melissa McCarthy vehicle Michelle Darnell.
