The Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks is getting back into the comedy game with the Universal pic BOY, GIRL, BOY, GIRL. Formerly known as Bad Couples, the script comes from Victoria Strouse, and has Josh Greenbaum set to direct.
The story centers around a married couple who becomes jealous when another couple steals their best friends, which triggers a competition to win them back.
Banks has a loaded development slate, which includes both television and film projects that she’s set to star in, produce, and direct. On the television front, Banks is set to star in and produce HBO’s untitled “Battle of the Sexes” tennis project, while she’s also in development with a pilot at Fox, Front Man.
As she continues to expand her resume as a producer, Banks, who made her feature directorial debut with last summer’s box office smash Pitch Perfect 2, has subsequently signed on to direct Red Queen, Pitch Perfect 3, and the new Charlie’s Angels reboot. She recently wrapped on the Netflix drama The Most Hated Woman in America from Tommy O’Haver, and is currently in production with Lionsgate’s Power Rangers – in which she plays the villainous Rita Repulsa. She is repped by UTA and Untitled Entertainment.
Greenbaum is the creator and director of the Hulu digital series Behind the Mask, and has served as a director on Hulu’s Deadbeat and Fox’s The New Girl. Boy Girl Boy Girl will mark Greenbaum’s debut as a comedy feature director; he previously directed the documentary feature The Short Game. He is repped by UTA.
Strouse is the writer of Pixar’s upcoming Finding Dory. A former Black List writer, she was recently tapped to rewrite the long-gestating father-son comedy Overnight for Disney. She’s also the screenwriter behind Tink, the live-action Peter Pan adaptation centered around Tinkerbell – a project to which Banks was previously attached to star before she dropped out and Reese Witherspoon stepped in. Strouse is repped by Verve.
